Family Friendly Theatre Awards
printThe South East's Theatre For Families Project, supported
by the Arts Council of England, have announced the winners
of its regional awards for Family Friendly Theatres.
Judges looked for venues paying special attention to family needs and serving those needs with high quality shows and facilities. Popular support in the form of votes or comments received from the public also made a significant contribution.
And the winners are ...
Best Family Friendly Theatre:
Komedia, Brighton
KOMEDIA in Brighton have been awarded the Best Family Friendly Theatre Award, reflecting the Komedia's long-standing commitment to its family audiences. The regular Sunday event 'Kids @ Komedia' encourages families to enjoy fun, entertaining and inspiring shows. Staff at Komedia are consistently helpful, welcoming and thoughtful, and are always happy to accommodate families - not just at shows specifically for children. 'Family Friendly' features are being integrated into the building's new extensions which will lead to an even higher standard of service.
Theatre with the Most Family Friendly Facilities:
The Hawth, Crawley
With its large main theatre, foyer, studio, amphitheatre and other outdoor spaces, it offers a programme for all ages and interests as well as providing suitable catering, baby changing facilities, booster seats and other practical resources.
Theatre with the Warmest Family Welcome:
The Gulbenkian, Canterbury
A venue working hard to create a truly family atmosphere. Special lunches with live music, face-painting, magicians and parents and carers are able to relax before enjoying the performances, which are of a consistently high standard.
There was strong support for Eastbourne Theatres (Devonshire Park and Congress) which offer a wonderful theatrical experience to large numbers of families. The Gardner Arts Centre, Brighton was commended for its commitment to the most innovative theatre and dance for children and families and for its growing commitment to this audience.
